A lead magnet your ideal customer actually wants!

Often we make lead magnets far more complicated than they need to be. 

We worry too much about the design; or give too much information that the end-user has to paw through to find the answer you were sharing; or make it too damn hard to find and understand the solution offered; or we create things our customers just aren't interested in… this is when list growth stagnates. 

The reality is, your potential customers are out there right now looking for what you can help them with. So make it super easy for people to get a micro-solution via a lead magnet from you.

No matter what type of lead magnet you use, there are 4 essential ingredients of a lead magnet people want to hand over their email address for. 

So, what are these four ingredients to creating a lead magnet people actually want? Let me talk you through them....

The 4 Essential Ingredients A Lead Magnet People Actually Want

#1 - Position Your Brand

The first job of a great lead magnet is to position your brand.

Now, you might think that's a given. But there are lots of people putting out multiple pieces of content that actually confuse their brand message and stop them from becoming known for the one thing they help people with.

Your lead magnet needs to do the job of positioning you. 

Because people are scrolling. They're looking for a solution to a problem and you need to be super clear with your message about what you do and why you.

That’s the first thing. 

#2 - Easy to Consume

The next thing is that it MUST be easy to consume.

You might think that's a no-brainer, right? Like, don't make it difficult.

But you'd be surprised at how many people create too many hoops to jump through before you can get their piece of content or take action on it.

So it’s really important to make it super easy for people. Not too many clicks to get there and also how the content is delivered.

We are impatient beings as humans plus we are distracted. So we need things to be super easy. 

I mean - I don't want to read a 70 page booklet to find the answer to something. Do you?  

In summary, consuming your lead magnet needs to be super quick and easy to access, understand and take action on. 

#3 - Solve An Immediate Problem

Then, third, it needs to solve an immediate problem. 

That problem needs to be in the now for somebody. It has to be something they want to solve right now. Not something they might put off for the future. 

There has to be a burning desire straight away to solve the problem. That’s what will motivate them to go ahead and click the button. 

Not only that but if your lead magnet is aimed at solving an immediate problem, your new lead will have a much higher chance of actually giving your lead magnet their time and energy to consume and implement, which will lead them to the desired result faster AND in turn make your brand look amazing.

So make it relevant and able to deliver a quick win to the lead.

#4 - Create An Open Loop

Finally - and very importantly - your lead magnet needs to create some kind of open loop. 

What I mean by that is - your lead magnet helps someone solve the first part of a problem but then there needs to be a loop opened so they know what to do next. 

What is the next logical step? 

Of course, the next logical step is to buy from you or work with you. You want them to take that next step with you

Remember, your lead magnet or free piece of content isn’t going to solve every problem immediately. Rather, it’s going to solve one very specific painful problem and open a loop to the next problem they may have. 

To do this, think about your business and your brand and the overarching problem you solve for people. Then chunk that down.  

For example, let’s say you help people start a part-time online business. That's the big thing you help people with. So, what’s the very first problem people come across when it comes to starting a part-time online business? 

Maybe it’s the idea phase. It might be that people just don't have any idea of what to do. They know they want to do something, but need a good idea.

Your lead magnet can help them with that. 

And then you open a loop to the next problem. They've solved the first little problem - now they have an idea. And the natural progression is to the next problem - what to do now?
